Overview of School Curriculum – KS4 & 5

Key Stage 4 – Years 9 - 11:
All students in KS4 will follow a core curriculum followed by four optional choices.  The current offer for KS4 students is outlined in the Year 8 and Year 9 options booklets.  Students will study the core subjects of English Language / Literature, Mathematics, Science (Dual or Triple Award), Physical Education, Philosophy and Ethics, and ICT Skills (Years 9 and 10 only).

In addition students will select 4 optional subjects (subject to demand): Art, Business, BTEC Business, Computer Science, BTEC Dance, Drama, Film Studies, Food and Nutrition, French, Geography, German, Graphics (Year 11 only), BTEC Health and Social Care, History, ICT (Year 10 and 11 only), Media Studies, BTEC Music, Photography, GCSE PE, Religious Studies (Years 10 and 11 only), Resistant Materials, Spanish and Textiles.

In Years 10 and 11 they will study for 5 hours per fortnight in each option block, in Year 9 students study 4 hours per fortnight in each option block.

Post-16 – Years 12 and 13:
A wide range of Academic and Vocational Level 3 qualifications are available Post-16.  This is reviewed on a yearly basis.  Students select four AS subjects to study in Year 12 and undertake 10 hours of lessons per subject per fortnight.  There is also the opportunity to complete enrichment activities on a Wednesday afternoon and/or an additional qualification in General Studies or Extended Project.
