End of Year Newsletter 2024

What an incredible year we’ve had! Before we head off into the summer holidays, we wanted to share some of the highlights of this term with you.

A MESSAGE FROM MRS WATKINS, HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we bring another vibrant and fulfilling school year to a close, I am filled with immense gratitude and pride for our school community. Reflecting on the past months, it’s clear that our journey together has been marked by dedication, growth, and remarkable achievements.

Firstly, I want to commend our incredible students for their hard work and perseverance. Whether it was through academic endeavors, sporting events, or artistic pursuits, their enthusiasm and commitment have shone brightly. They have faced challenges with resilience and have grown in both knowledge and character.

Equally, I wish to acknowledge the invaluable support from you, our parents and carers. Your involvement in school life, whether through attending events, helping us to fundraise, or simply encouraging your children at home, has been instrumental in fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment. Your partnership with our dedicated staff has played a crucial role in supporting our students’ success.

As we transition into the summer break, I encourage everyone to take this time to rest, recharge, and reflect on the wonderful moments we have shared. The sense of community and collaboration that defines our school will undoubtedly propel us forward into another successful year.

Thank you once again for your unwavering support and commitment. Together, we have created a dynamic and supportive environment where our students can flourish. I look forward to welcoming you back next year, ready to embark on new adventures and continue our journey of learning and growth.

What we’ve been up to

This term has been busy with all kinds of exciting events and activities, from extra-curricular excellence to extraordinary performances.

YEAR 7 CAMP

Camp is a right of passage for our Year 7 students, and this year we were blessed with lovely weather and a great group of children. Everyone made friends to last a lifetime, and experienced a range of activities like axe throwing, making smores, camping, canoeing and climbing. Our Ryburn Campers also had a fantastic time, they were encouraged to get involved in rocket launching, spaghetti towers and more at school.

Transition

Transition Evening was a roaring success, with all of our new Year 7’s visiting Ryburn to learn about their new school and meeting their form tutors.

Transition Day was a great opportunity to experience life at Ryburn before September, and for students to become familiar with their new surroundings.

We can’t wait to welcome them back in September.

we said goodbye for now to our year 11 students

What a year for our Year 11 students, they have worked incredibly hard during their exams and showing true Ryburn spirit throughout.

We have loved getting to know each and every one of them over the last 5 years, and we hope to see them next year at Ryburn Sixth.

Shirt signing levelled up this year, with most students getting crafty with their shirt decorations.

VOLUNTEERING

We think that giving back to the community is a fantastic way to build character and take pride in your surroundings. Our students have been out litter picking in Sowerby Bridge, raising money for charity and getting involved in community events. We are so proud of how enthusiastic students are to do their part to make the world a better place for everyone.

FutUre leaders conference

Our Ambassadors met student leaders from the other secondary schools across the Together Learning Trust to think of ways to encourage leadership in primary schools.

They had lots of great suggestions, and worked together to bring their ideas to life, visiting year 6 students to talk about the many benefits of being involved in student leadership.

rYBURN PRIDE

Ryburn Sixth students were tasked with creating Pride events that would encourage diversity and togetherness and bring colour to Ryburn this Pride season.

We enjoyed bun sales, selfie stations, a colour run and rainbow science experiments. We are so proud for the inclusive environment we have here at Ryburn, and we thank Mrs Logan and her LGBTQIA+ group for making sure everyone has a safe space to be themselves.

RYBURN ACADEMY AWARDS

Ryburn Academy Awards is, by far, our biggest event of the year. We love to celebrate our students all year round, but ending the year on a high is what makes this event so special. A big thank you to the organisers, performers, staff and students who work hard to make Ryburn Academy Awards a night to remember.

RYBURN SIXTH

Don’t forget, students hoping to attend Ryburn Sixth can talk to the Ryburn Sixth Team on Results Day on Thursday 22 August. We look forward to welcoming you to our incredible sixth form college that has outstanding results.

Upcoming Dates:

  • End of term Friday 19 March
