Your rights are at the heart of everything we do.
Our school isn’t about meaningless quotes on a prospectus, or age old values written in latin. We empower our students every day, putting their rights and their futures at the heart of Ryburn.
Ryburn is known as a school that goes above and beyond to ensure our students are reaching their potential, a strength recognised by our Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award. We cultivate an environment of safety and creativity, allowing our students to lead happy, healthy lives, putting them on their way to becoming responsible citizens.
We aim to give our students valuable life skills, to create innovators and problem solvers who will succeed in an ever-changing world. Working with our students in this way builds confidence and wellbeing, helps students withstand academic pressures, and enriches lives. And, as our results show, improves performance.
Much of this can’t be taught but must be built through embedding strong values and creating a culture where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive.
What ARE Rights Respecting Schools?
The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award supports schools across the UK to embed children’s human rights in their ethos and culture.
The Award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve wellbeing and help all children and young people realise their potential.
The Award is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The initiative started in 2006 and schools involved in the Award have reported a positive impact on relationships and wellbeing, leading to better learning and behavior, improved academic standards and less bullying.
