Your rights are at the heart of everything we do.

Our school isn’t about meaningless quotes on a prospectus, or age old values written in latin. We empower our students every day, putting their rights and their futures at the heart of Ryburn.

Ryburn is known as a school that goes above and beyond to ensure our students are reaching their potential, a strength recognised by our Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award. We cultivate an environment of safety and creativity, allowing our students to lead happy, healthy lives, putting them on their way to becoming responsible citizens.

We aim to give our students valuable life skills, to create innovators and problem solvers who will succeed in an ever-changing world. Working with our students in this way builds confidence and wellbeing, helps students withstand academic pressures, and enriches lives. And, as our results show, improves performance.

Much of this can’t be taught but must be built through embedding strong values and creating a culture where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive.

What ARE Rights Respecting Schools?

The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award supports schools across the UK to embed children’s human rights in their ethos and culture.

The Award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve wellbeing and help all children and young people realise their potential.

The Award is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The initiative started in 2006 and schools involved in the Award have reported a positive impact on relationships and wellbeing, leading to better learning and behavior, improved academic standards and less bullying.

empowering our students

Most schools these days have a set of values that adorn walls and websites. However, all the Together Learning Trust schools, like Ryburn believe that a deep understanding of our key virtues empower students and staff to realise their potential with regard to their civic duty. They are confident to lead and committed to getting involved in a huge range of activities and projects locally, nationally and globally. These have a profound and positive effect, shaping communities for the better. It is humbling that UNICEF have acknowledged this wonderful work and awarded the school with their Rights Respecting Silver Award. This is so impressive especially when you consider that our youngsters are still able to perform at exceptionally high levels, knocking their exam results out of the park. Bring on the challenge of more ambassadorial, campaigning, advocacy, fundraising and ethical leadership work for all our youngsters and the gold award will soon follow. Congratulations to all involved from a very proud CEO.
