Careers were very much the focus of attention last week at Ryburn as both our Year 10 and Year 12 students took part in virtual work experience lessons and workshops.
Working with Covea Insurance, the Year 10 students were tasked with creating their own insurance product, and creating a webpage and marketing campaign to promote this - and they definitely rose to the challenge!
The ideas presented ranged from farm insurance to insurance for computer viruses and even Monopoly insurance (with a free get out of jail free card!).
This was a valuable opportunity for students to learn about real working environments and gain information about the variety of roles within a business.
For year 12, the week kicked off with online sessions with C&K Careers Advisors (our in-house Careers Service) with exercises to identify their own skills and experience, connect these to different career paths and then explore these career paths. Day two saw the students undertaking mock-interviews and receiving valuable individual feedback on how they did.
For the final day, the year 12s were given a business challenge - to come up with a fundraiser idea to make money for the Year 13 Prom. Each member of the group was assigned a different role within the ‘business’ and the team presented their proposals to the rest of the group. Ryburn Sixth staff are currently busy selecting the best proposal - which will hopefully be run as an actual fundraising event next year. Watch this space!
