Pencils

By Cavan King, Y10

Pencils are like humans

They appear in all shapes, sizes and colours

They are clever and important

When pencils are dropped or agitated they are damaged inside but can’t be seen on the outside until they are used

When humans are hurt or agitated they are damaged inside but can’t be seen on the outside

But we are also different to pencils

Pencils can’t help other pencils and lend a helping hand in desperate times

Humans can!

Pencils can’t fix their mistakes (without a rubber)

Humans can!

And most of all, pencils can’t help stop disease or improve climate change or have equal rights

But…

You can!

So make the most of your time indoors being creative and think about the people who are helping our country and try and do what you can to help those people in need .

Thank you NHS!

We hope you felt cheered by this lovely and quirky poem, which was a runner up in our Positive Words Writing Competition. Check back over the next two days for the rest of the winning pieces.
